Responsible Travel

Travel With Respect, Awareness and Purpose

Indigo Adventures believes that meaningful travel should respect people, places, culture, history and the natural environment. We encourage travellers to explore with curiosity, humility and care.

Our Approach

Responsible travel is part of every meaningful journey

The destinations we visit are not just places on a map. They are homes, communities, sacred spaces, heritage sites, ecosystems and living cultures. Our role is to help travellers experience them thoughtfully, while encouraging respect, learning and positive connection.

01

Respect people

We encourage travellers to engage with local communities politely, listen carefully, ask questions sensitively and honour personal boundaries.

02

Respect culture

We promote awareness of local customs, dress expectations, greetings, sacred spaces, music, food traditions and community values.

03

Respect history

Many tours include places of deep historical meaning. We encourage reflection, sensitivity and dignity at memorial, heritage and historic sites.

04

Respect nature

We ask travellers to protect landscapes, wildlife, coastlines, forests, rivers and national parks by following guide instructions and reducing waste.

Cultural Respect

Travel with humility in places of meaning

Our itineraries may include castles, museums, memorials, markets, spiritual centres, traditional villages, historic towns, fishing communities and local homes. Each setting deserves thoughtful behaviour.

Ask before taking photographs

Always ask before photographing people, homes, ceremonies, markets, religious places or sensitive heritage sites. Some places may restrict photography completely.

Dress appropriately

Clothing expectations vary across destinations and activities. Modest, respectful dress may be especially important in religious, rural, traditional or memorial settings.

Listen to local guidance

Guides and local hosts understand the cultural context. Their advice helps travellers behave appropriately and avoid causing offence.

Engage with sensitivity

Places linked to slavery, conflict, loss or spiritual meaning should be approached with care, reflection and respect rather than casual sightseeing.

Community & Environment

Small choices can create better travel impact

Responsible travel is not only about where we go, but how we behave when we arrive. Travellers can make a positive difference through everyday choices such as supporting local businesses, reducing waste and respecting natural habitats.

We encourage travellers to value local knowledge, use resources carefully, avoid exploitative behaviour and remember that destinations are lived places, not just holiday backdrops.

Responsible choices include:

  • Supporting local guides, markets, restaurants and craftspeople
  • Reducing single-use plastics where possible
  • Following rules in national parks, reserves and conservation areas
  • Not feeding, touching or disturbing wildlife
  • Respecting local prices, livelihoods and community spaces
  • Using water and energy carefully in accommodation
  • Leaving places as clean as, or cleaner than, you found them
